How to Remove Foundation Stains from a White Shirt
When foundation gets on your white shirt, rushing to wash it off with water is counterproductive!
Before washing the stained area with water, please try the following method first.
How to Clean Foundation Off a White Shirt
Things You Need
- Cleansing oil
- Dish soap
- An old toothbrush (or similar soft brush)
- Kitchen paper/paper towels or a white towel
Instructions
- If it is powder foundation, pat off as much excess powder as possible. If it is liquid foundation, gently wipe it off without rubbing.
- Place the dress shirt with the foundation-stained side facing up, and put paper towels or a towel underneath.
- Apply cleansing oil to the brush and gently tap the stained area to allow the oil to soak into the fabric.
- Tap gently from the reverse side as well.
- As the stain transfers to the paper towel or towel underneath, repeat steps 2 to 4 until no more color comes off.
- Apply dish soap and hand-wash by rubbing gently in lukewarm water.
- Wash as usual in the washing machine.
Foundation applied to the skin comes off with cleansing oil. The principle is the same even if it gets on clothing. You can remove it with cleansing oil!
Be careful with how hard you tap when soaking the oil into the fabric with the brush. Try to do it gently so as not to damage the material.
Makeup remover wipes are recommended for emergencies

- Tissue or dry handkerchief
Instructions
- Lightly tap the foundation-stained area with a makeup remover wipe.
- Absorb the lifted stain using a tissue or handkerchief.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2.
This method works not only for collar stains, but also for stains on shirt cuffs that aren't covered by a jacket.

Photo studios may be able to fix it with retouching
If you notice a collar stain right before a photo session at a photo studio, ask the staff if retouching is possible.
Even if there isn't enough time to wash out the stain, they may be able to make it look clean through photo editing.
